Since the 1st May, 2008 the Construction Equipment Research Institute (Przemysłowy Instytut Maszyn Budowlanych), according to the Commercialization Act for research-development units has been transformed into limited liability company under the name of Construction Equipment Research Institute (Przemysłowy Instytut Maszyn Budowlanych) Limited liability company. The sole partner of the Company is State Treasury.

The Company is registered in the District Court in Warsaw, XIV Economic Department of Home Court Register and put its name down in Enterprise Register under No. KRS 0000302817.

Seed capital of the Company is 6.300.000 PLN.

The Company Body is formed by the General Meeting of Shareholders and the Board.

Principles, the range of activity and rights of the Company are defined in the Founding Deed of the Company.

The Company is located in a town of Kobyłka 18 km away from Warsaw. It occupies more than 23 ha.

The Central Constructional Office of Construction Devices (the CBKUB ) was a precursor of the Institute created by Order of Minister of Heavy Industry of 15th December 1951roku. From the beginning the CBKUB undertook the pioneer works in the range of designing and implementing machinery to industry in order to rebuild the country from war damage.
For many years the CBKUB considerably contributed to development of construction machinery industry by development and modernization of the design, test and manufacture bases.
In 1970s in Poland there were great changes in construction machinery industry and in 1972 the CBKUB was transformed into the Research-Development Centre of Construction Machinery with Experimental Plants in towns of Kobylka and Bielsko-Biala.

As there was a necessity of carrying on more and more difficult development and implementation works in field of mobile cranes, in 1977 the Construction Equipment Research Institute (Przemysłowy Instytut Maszyn Budowlanych) was created on the basis of Order of Prime Minister. The Institute took over the potential and the property of the Research-Development Centre of Construction Machinery making it one of the best scientific institution in Poland. For many years the Institute was scientific-research centre of the former Construction Machinery Industry Union "Bumar".

The Institute has been a Notified Body No. 1457 in European Union since May 2004. The scope of the Body covers conformity assessment in the range of the following directives:

  • 2006/42/EU on the approximation of the laws of the Members States relating to machinery,
  • 2000/14/EU on noise emission in the environment by equipment for use outdoors,

As part of notification the Institute carries on conformity assessment with UE directives, issues certificates required to obtain the declaration of conformity and CE marking. In the range of voluntary conformity assessment the Institute provides services regarding products covered by the Directives of New Approach, which make it possible to issue conformity declaration and marking the products with CE mark.
The Institute has accreditation issued by PARP and can provide services to small and midium enterprises (MSP) as part of the PHARE program "Introduction to Quality".

The Institute has certificates of quality management system according to PN-EN ISO 9001:2009 and AQAP 2110:2009 and certificates: 1) the accreditation of testing laboratory No. AB 016 in conformity with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and 2) product certification body No. AC 061 in conformity with PN-EN 45011:2000. The Institute has the licence No. B-024/2007 given by Minister of Interior and Administration, which regards performing economic activity in the range of manufacturing and selling of explosive materials, weapon, ammunition as well as products and technology for armed forces and police.

Three departments deal with merits activity in the Institute:

  • Research- Design Centre,
  • Product Certification Centre,
  • Technical Department.
To improve management and to adapt the Institute activity to needs of the market, from 1st January 2004 the Experimental Plant in a town of Biskupiec was excluded from the Institute and a new company was created called Zaklad Doswiadczalny BISKUPIEC Sp. z o.o.. The Institute has 100% shares in it. The company deals with with development and the serial production of electromechanical units designed for a country’s defences.

Apart from market activity focused on achieving profits, the Institute participates in activities of many national organizations such as:

  • Mazovian Centre of Advanced Technologies,
  • Polish Technological Platform of Rail Transport,
  • Technical Safety Centre,
  • Economic Chamber of Municipal Transport,
  • Polish Chamber of Vehicles Control Stands,
  • Polish Chamber of National Defence Manufacturers.
  • Club of Polish Testing Laboratories "POLLAB",
  • "Polish Forum ISO 9000" Club,

The Institute is only in country the final manufacturer of special vehicles designed for technical rescue works mainly in municipal transport - the rescue cranes TRAM, access platforms MONTRAKS, rail emergency special vehicle POTEKS and transport vehicle TRANSKAB.
